I write about wildness. I have tried other threads and different themes, but I always return to this topic. Wildness is what I hunger for—spiritually, emotionally, physically. After years of writing about it, and teaching about it—I know I’m not alone. Both my books are celebrations of wildness; the wildness that exists within us–and without.

RECLAIMING THE WILD SOUL: A New Soul Journey for an Ecological Age

(forthcoming, 2013)

RECLAIMING THE WILD SOUL - A NEW SOUL JOURNEY FOR AN ECOLOGICAL AGE

Quote from book: ”There is a richness and diversity of life in rainforests that mirrors the incredible depth and breadth of our own souls. With the future and past hidden from sight, we stand in a present moment pulsing with possibilities. We learn to live the questions rather than rush the answers.”

This book initiates a journey into five “soulscapes” that hold wild wisdom for our own souls. As the reader travels deep into the heart of these regions they will discover a pathway to living that will allow the wild expanses both inside and outside of them to flourish and thrive.

    Reclaiming the Wild Soul:

  • Guides the reader on a journey through five archetypal landscapes that connect our inner terrain of psyche and soul with the great landscape archetypes of the earth
  • Connects the environmental crisis and soul crisis in ways that expose our shared destiny with wildness everywhere
  • Empowers the reader to access the wisdom of the wild in order to align with the deep creativity of the planet –and thus to evolve in a way that serves the good of all.

Brian Swimme, Ph.DReclaiming the Wild Soul is a gateway into the great spiritual journey of our time: that of nondual consciousness, also called spiritual ecology. These moving stories and images and poetry of Reynolds Thompson will carry you into a fresh, though ancient, realization: the deserts and forests and mountains are there in the universe, and yet simultaneously, they are vibrantly alive in the depths of our souls.”
Brian Swimme, Ph.D., author of The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos (Orbis, 1996), Manifesto for a Global Civilization (with Matthew Fox) (Bear and Company, 1983), The Universe is a Green Dragon (Bear and Company, 1984), and The Universe Story (with Thomas Berry) (Harper, 1992).

Jane Hirshfield“This is a book of astonishment, reverence, and freedom. Familiar and less familiar beings and places are alike made bright here, burnished by a seeing made vision, a seeing made also more precise by being shared. These pages enact an invitation that leads inward and also outward. I looked, I read, I lingered . . . then reached for my hiking boots, to go out at once and see more deeply and freely for myself.”
Jane Hirshfield, prize-winning poet and essayist, finalist National Book Critics Circle Award
